Speedo Performance of the Week, Presented by Pace Club: May 28, 2013

PHOENIX, Arizona, May 28.THE Russian contingent of swimmers training at Trojan Swim Club in Los Angeles had a great weekend at the Speedo Grand Challenge in Irvine last weekend, putting up some times that shows the Russians will be a major force at the world championships this summer. Though we are coming to expect fast swims from Vlad Morozov lately, Yulia Efimova's 2:24.31 in the 200 breast on Sunday was quite a surprise.

Efimova swam a 2:25 at the Russian nationals to qualify for the world championships, and to go faster eight weeks out from worlds could be a sign that Efimova is primed to upgrade her 2011 silver medal from the world championships to gold this year. With Rebecca Soni sitting out this year, the event is wide open, and Efimova just made herself a prime contender. Efimova's swim on Sunday included a great final 50 meters, a 36.17.

Congratulations, Yulia. You've won the Speedo Performance of the Week.
