Streamlined News: Chinese Swimming, Denis Cotterell Updates

PHOENIX, Arizona, September 26. CHINESE swimming is the main topic of today's show, with headlines coming from the Chinese nationals and the recent rumors that Denis Cotterell was forbidden from coaching foreigners. First, at the nationals, Sun Yang wrapped up his meet with a 14:50.30. Yes, it is 29 seconds off the world record he set at the Olympics, but only four other people in the world have been able to swim faster than that in 2012.

Ye Shiwen did not swim the individual medleys at the nationals, but showed up in a very off event today, placing fourth in the 50 free. And Zhang Fenglin, who was fifth in the 200 back in London with a 1:55.59, wasn't too far off today with a 1:56.36.

And Down Under in Australia, Denis Cotterell denied all reports that he had been banned from coaching Sun Yang, Ye Shiwen and other foreigners, after he guided them to gold medals and world records. Cotterell said the reports were “totally erroneous,” and that he's only taking a break from coaching them through the remainder of 2012.
