Streamlined News: USAS Convention Starts; Japan Celebrates Olympians -- September 11, 2012

PHOENIX, Arizona, September 11. THE United States Aquatic Sports convention kicks into full gear today in Greensboro, North Carolina, and all four aquatic disciplines, plus Masters swimming, will set new regulations for the coming year. Each sport will honor their top volunteers and athletes at special ceremonies this week as well.

Japan held a parade for their Olympic medalists recently in Tokyo, crowding the popular district of Ginza so much that traffic stood still for hours as fans took photographs. The 10 swimmers who won medals in London were there, including Kosuke Kitajima, who won silver as part of the medley relay for his seventh Olympic medal overall. Japan collected 38 medals across all sports in London, including seven gold.
