Streamlined News: Fast Swimming in Brazil; Lochte and Hansen on Today Show; Jr Pan Pacs Begin

PHOENIX, Arizona, August 23. THE Brazilians continue to swim fast at the Jose Finkel meet in Sao Paulo. Yesterday, Guilherme Guido swam a 23.31 in the short course meters 50 backstroke, breaking his own Brazilian and South American record. He went much slower in semifinals but could put on a show tonight in finals.

The Brazilian male breaststrokers continue to put up some quick times when they race each other, and last night Felipe Silva won the 100 breast in 58.17, with Felipe Lima second in 58.26. Henrique Barbosa was a close third with a 58.62.

Ryan Lochte and Brendan Hansen were on NBC's Today show this morning. Lochte spoke for the first time about his now-famous race with Prince Harry at a Las Vegas pool party and how life has been for him since the Olympics. He also said he's getting back into the water on Monday with the specific goal of getting ready for Rio in four years. Hansen, on the other hand, said he's done with competing, and has been spending his time talking to kids, getting them inspired about swimming and preparing the next generation. Hansen also spilled the beans that the baby he and his wife are expecting early next year will be a girl. Congratulations to them.

The junior Pan Pacific championships begin today in Hawaii, and this breeding ground for future talent features rising stars Jack Conger and Chase Kalisz on the men's side and Chelsea Chenault and Becca Mann on the female side. Lia Neal, Yolane Kukla and Jasmine Tosky are just a few of the swimmers who have competed at this meet in the past and have found international success.
