Streamlined News: Recapping Olympic Diving and Water Polo Semis, US Open Prelims

PHOENIX, Arizona, August 7. THE semifinals of the men's three-meter competition at the London Olympics today put China back on top in preparation for tonight's finals. He Chong qualified first for finals, with Russian Ilya Zakharov in second ahead of China's Qin Kai. American Troy Dumais is in fifth place and is looking to continue the United States' streak of medals in London. Dumais' teammate Chris Colwill was in contention for a place in the finals until he botched his inward three-and-a-half somersault in the fifth round and did not even attempt his reverse three-and-a-half on the sixth round, earning zero points. Finals in the men's three-meter are currently underway, and we'll bring you results of the competition on swimmingworld.com.

Women's water polo is holding its semifinal matches today, and the United States faced off against Australia, beating their longtime rival 11-9 in overtime. Maggie Steffens and Kami Craig were responsible for the two goals for the United States in the overtime session, putting the U.S. in the final against the winner of the game against Hungary and Spain. That final will be played on Thursday.

Back here in the United States, the US Open began in Indianapolis, and we'll see a few names that are looking for a second chance at redemption after not making the Olympic team. Several swimmers from Australia are also in the meet, including Matt Abood, who was part of the Aussie 400 free relay last summer that won the world title. Today's events are the women's and men's 200 fly and 100 free, as well as the women's 800 and men's 1500. We'll have complete finals recaps for you on swimmingworld.com.
