Streamlined News: Olympians in Europe; Simon Fraser University Becoming Part of NCAA

PHOENIX, Arizona, July 16. MANY of the world's best swimmers are making the trek to western Europe, making the necessary acclimations to the time zone in which they'll be competing in at the Olympics. The Americans arrived in Vichy, France, on Saturday and coaches and swimmers are posting numerous photos on their Twitter accounts of the pool and the wonderful views in the city. The swimmers will train in France for about another week, then head across the English Channel for London.

The final group of South Africans are arriving in Monaco, where Princess Charlene, an Olympic swimmer for South Africa in 2000, is hosting the team in their training camp. Most of the team has been in Europe for about a month competing, with the America-based athletes arriving this weekend.

Some of the Australian team has been training in France, and now they'll meet up in Manchester, England, for a few days of training before heading to France.

Back here in North America, the NCAA is considering a vote that would allow Simon Fraser University to become the first Canadian school to be a part of the organization. The Vancouver-based school will be a provisional school this upcoming school year, and will be able to contend for NCAA championships in all sports, including swimming and diving, most likely in Division II. The men's and women's teams regularly compete against American schools, including Seattle University and Cal Baptist. The vote to add Simon Fraser to the NCAA is expected to happen in September.
