SAN ANTONIO, Texas, December 4. DAVID Guthrie was a part of five short course meters Masters world records over the weekend at the South Texas championships.
Guthrie, representing Longhorn Masters, was dominant in the breaststroke events, resetting all three of his records in the 50-54 age group. He barely got under his world marks of 30.73 and 1:06.84 in the 50 and 100 breaststrokes with times of 30.61 and 1:06.38, respectively. But in the 200 breast, he lopped nearly three seconds off his standard, taking the record down from 2:28.59 to 2:25.70.

Guthrie was prolific in the pool in 2012, breaking five of the six Masters world records in the breaststroke events in his age group. The only one he was unable to get was the 50 breast, which is currently owned by 1988 Olympian Richard Schroeder.
Guthrie wrapped up his weekend with two relay world records, teaming with Ande Rasmussen, Mike Varozza and Jim Sauer in the 200 and 400 medley relays.
In the 200 medley relay, Rasmussen (backstroke: 27.82), Guthrie (breaststroke: 29.64), Sauer (butterfly: 28.10) and Varozz (free: 23.96) posted a 1:49.42, breaking Colorado Masters' world record of 1:50.83 set in 2006. In the 400 medley relay, Longhorn was chasing after its own world record of 4:13.76 swum earlier this year, and they smashed it with a 3:59.68. Rasmussen led off with a 1:00.40 backstroke leg, followed by Guthrie's 1:05.60 breaststroke split. Sauer split 1:01.22 on his butterfly leg and Varozza finished it off with a blistering 52.46 freestyle split.
