Marriott USMS Summer Nationals: Luane Rowe Sets USMS Record

OMAHA, Nebraska, July 5. LESS than a week after the conclusion of the US Olympic Trials, the CenturyLink Center in Omaha is buzzing again as the Marriott USMS Summer Nationals are officially underway. The meet kicked off this morning with timed finals in the men's and women's 800m and 1500m freestyles.

Luane Rowe of Tri Valley Masters set the lone USMS record today, clocking a 17:22.39 to win the women's 18-24 1500m free. Alison Templin set the previous record of 17:27.74 last summer.

Brooke Bennett, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, also competed today. Bennett won the women's 800m free at the 1996 Olympics at age 16, then doubled in the 400m and 800m free in Sydney in 2000. Today, she swam the 1500m free in 17:54.28, winning the women's 30-34 division by over three minutes.
