Sun Yang, Ye Shiwen Named Swimming World Pacific Rim Swimmers of the Year

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 29. AS part of our ongoing rollout of our 2011 World/Regional Swimmers of the Year announcements, we are proud to announce the Pacific Rim Swimmers of the Year. For the first time since the creation of the award in 1995, China has swept both the Male and Female awards as Sun Yang and Ye Shiwen are this year's recipients. Both swimmers are featured in the December issue of Swimming World Magazine. Notably, Sun was one of just two unanimous selections in this year's voting. You'll find out who the other is later in the week.

In the December issue, Swimming World features the longest-running and most prestigious award in the sport of swimming. Beginning in 1964 with Don Schollander being named the World Swimmer of the Year , and continuing with the addition of various Regional Swimmers of the Year in 1980, the award system honors the best of the best from each year's feats in the sport.

Here is how the Top 5 rankings worked out in the Pacific Rim. We have included first-place votes for the first time as part of our voting structure:
