Race Footage: Watch Curtis Ogren Break 1:45 to Reset 200 IM National High School Independent Mark

SANTA CLARA, California, May 23. CURTIS Ogren had two reasons to celebrate at the finish of the 200-yard individual medley at the Central Coast section championships last Saturday.

Not only did the St. Francis Prep senior lower the independent national high school record of 1:45.01 that he set last year, but his winning time of 1:44.90 got him under that tough 1:45 barrier as he prepares to join the Stanford men’s team in the fall. Incidentally, he’ll train with the current overall high school record holder David Nolan in Palo Alto.

In this video, Ogren executes all four strokes perfectly and opens his lead on the field with each 50. If there’s a weak stroke for Ogren, it didn’t show in Saturday’s race!
