Swimming World Throwback Thursday Video: Germantown Relay Breaks National Record

PHOENIX, Arizona, December 19. THE recent news regarding Dick Shoulberg’s leave and subsequent return to the pool deck as coach at Germantown Academy has likely overshadowed the major accomplishments he has earned in more than four decades at the Pennsylvania high school.

He’s guided a few swimmers to world records, Olympic medals and national titles. And, many of those swimmers gained fame under his watch by setting national high school records. Most recently, the quartet of Shannon McKernan, Megan Dollard, Madison Visco and Rachel Zilinskas became the newest record breakers with an amazing 3:21.63 in the 400-yard freestyle relay to break the overall record that had been set by a Germantown team in 2006.

Swimming World was privileged to carry the race during a live stream of the Eastern Interscholastic Championships last February, and we’re happy to bring it to you today as part of Throwback Thursday.
