SARASOTA, Florida, October 15. MICHIGAN head coach Mike Bottom continues to draw on his Race Club roots in Florida as he just nabbed the commitment of Sarasota YMCA's Alex Katz.

Katz, who is ranked 27th in the Class of 2014 by CollegeSwimming.com, is an all-around threat with ability up and down the freestyle spectrum.

His best times are in the 200 backstroke in both yards and meters. He has a sweltering 1:45.17 to his credit in the 200-yard back as well as a 1:58.83 in the 200-meter backstroke to make him an immediate impact player in the stroke for Michigan.

Katz also has some strong distance times with an 8:57.80 in the 1000-yard freestyle as well as an 8:04.77 in the 800-meter free. Additionally, he dropped a 4:22.53 in the 400-meter IM at the U.S. Nationals this summer.

He had a phenomenal 2013 Speedo Junior National meet. Not only did he clock his top 200-meter back time, he also clocked a 1:50.17 in the 200-meter free, a 3:53.78 in the 400-meter free and an 8:04.77 in the 800-meter freestyle events.
