Harvard With Another Big Get as New York’s Jack Boyd Commits

BUFFALO, New York, October 8. IT’s been a big day for Harvard head coach Kevin Tyrrell. Just minutes after news broke that top-ranked recruit Edward Kim was headed to Harvard, No. 45 Jack Boyd publicly declared his intentions to swim for Harvard in the Class of 2014.

Boyd, who is ranked 45th in the Class of 2014 by CollegeSwimming.com, competes for Sweet Home Aquatics in Williamsville and preps at Canisius High in Buffalo.

“It is the best college in the world, academically in addition to being a rising swim program nationally,” Boyd posted about his commitment.

Boyd will provide Harvard with a fully versatile freestyle performer. He has big potential in all the freestyle events. He owns top times in the 50 (21.56), 100 (45.72), 200 (1:36.19), 500 (4:24.90), 1000 (9:19.89) and 1650 free (15:52.44) events demonstrating the depth and breadth of his ability in the stroke. His 200 and 1000 are his best ranked swims with his 200 being particularly useful for Harvard as a dynamic addition to its 800 free relay ability.

This past year, Boyd repeated as a double state champion at the State Federation and Public School Championships. He picked up wins in the 200 and 500 free for the second straight year in March 2013.

Boyd also has some long course potential. His top times in that format are in the 50 (23.67), 100 (51.46), 200 (1:52.85), 400 (4:01.61), 800 (8:24.28) and 1500 free (18:04.29).
