Sarasota YMCA’s Bethany Leap Jumps at Texas Offer

SARASOTA, Florida, October 1. SARASOTA YMCA’s Bethany Leap, who has been one of the top cheerleaders of the Class of 2014 by sending congratulations out on Twitter to plenty of the previous top commitments, finally has her time to shine. She’s elected to head to Longhorn Country by committing to Texas head coach Carol Capitani.

Leap, the 41st-ranked recruit in the Class of 2014 by CollegeSwimming.com, is a top flight breaststroker who will fit in nicely with the Longhorns with Laura Sogar having graduated.

Leap is a definitive threat in all breaststroke and IM events. She owns a 2:11.85 in the 200-yard breaststroke and a 2:31.69 in the 200-meter breaststroke. Those times came by way of the YMCA Short Course and U.S. Long Course Nationals, respectively.

She also sizzled in the 100-yard breast at YMCAs with a 1:01.71, while also clocking a 4:18.67 in the 400-yard IM at that meet. In 2012, she also threw down a 2:02.39 in the 200-yard IM at the Florida State 1A High School Championships. For good measure, she even has a 10:18.21 1000-yard freestyle to her credit from 2011.

Leap is the first big get for Texas this recruiting cycle as Capitani continues to put her stamp on the program alongside assistant coach Roric Fink.
