
The 50 yard free races were very close on both sides. Mount Royal Academy freshman Miriam Carney beat out Meaghan Shannon, an Oyster River sophomore, 25.90-25.92. St. Thomas Aquinas junior Jack Gentes outtouched senior Joshua Rines from Hollis/Brookline by a fingernail (22.92-22.93).
As with the Division 1 competition, five swimmers found their way to the finish line first in two events. Hanover sophomore Elizabeth Brechbuhl was first in both the 200 (1:54.65) and the 500 free (5:09.57). Breckbuhl's classmate at Hanover, Kathryn Aman, nabbed the 100 fly in 59.91 and the 100 back in 1:01.42. Plymouth Regional junior Kersten Dirrane captured the 200 IM (2:10.71) and the 100 breast (1:06.71).
Two juniors picked up double wins on the boys side: Belmont's Antony Hubbard (100 free, 49.92; 200 free, 1:48.63) and St. Thomas Aquinas' Sam Haines (100 fly, 53.97; 200 IM, 2:04.14).
Three Souhegan swimmers earned first in an event: junior Jamie Freud (100 free, 56.06) for the girls, and sophomores Tyler Howard (500 free, 4:59.17) and Alexander Bedard (100 breast, 1:01.80) for the boys. Oyster River freshman Matt Jones, in his first high school state meet, swam a 55.27 for the 100 back win.
The diving titles went to St. Thomas Aquinas senior Signe Frick (265.85 points) and Oyster River freshman Neville Caulfield (210.35 points).
