Five-Star Prospect Daryl Turner En Route to Twin Cities

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 11. ANOTHER big-time recruit on the men's side made his decision as Swimming World five-star recruit Daryl Turner knows where he will be training in college.

Turner, who swims for the Aces Swim Club and preps at Cherry Creek High in Colorado, committed to Kelly Kremer and Dennis Dale of the University of Minnesota, giving the Big Ten a score in early recruiting.

Turner is a versatile athlete who already has NCAA Division I B cuts in the 100-yard free (44.19) and 100-yard back (48.18). He also has strong long course meter times in those events as well with a 51.19 in the 100-meter free and a 57.75 in the 100-meter back. He also has a developing 50-yard free time of 20.67, and can give Minnesota a butterfly option when needed with a 49.71 in the 100-yard fly.

“I visited Minnesota not expecting to like it that much, but when I got there I couldn't help but to fall in love with school,” Turner told Swimming World. “I really liked the coaching staff and I could easily get along with the team, I also liked that I knew a few of the swimmers on the team. In my decision, I had to narrow it down to where I would be the happiest, and also where I could excel as a swimmer, turns out that Minnesota was the place for me. Swimming is my passion and I am very fortunate I can continue swimming in college and I am very excited to see what great things the team and I can accomplish next year! Go Gophers!”

Turner is the 19th-ranked swimmer in the country according to CollegeSwimming.com, and is the second-ranked swimmer in Colorado behind Clark Smith. Smith followed the legacy of his parents as Longhorn alums as the 12th-ranked swimmer committed to Texas last month.
