|PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania, February 25. GERMANTOWN Academy swept the team titles at the 132nd annual Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet was held Feb. 24-25 at La Salle University in Philadelphia, and broadcast LIVE on SwimmingWorld.TV. Germantown's girls combined for 533 points, with Episcopal Academy scoring 412 for second. Peddie School claimed third with 383 points, followed by Mercersburg Academy (322) and Penn Charter (184).
Germantown's Rachel Zilinskas set a meet record 4:40.04 in capturing the 500 free and posted a 1:47.11 victory in the 200 free. She anchored the winning Germantown 200 free relay of sophomore Meagan Dollard, freshman Shannon McKernan and sophomore Natalie Dowzicky (1:34.75); and led off Germantown's victorious 400 free relay (3:25.00) of McKernan, sophomore Carolyn Yang and Dollard.
Other Germantown leaders included senior Madeline Maher, who swam to first-place times of 1:03.86 in the 100 breast and 2:01.38 in the 200 IM, and Dollard, who held off Baldwin freshman Val Yoshimura in the 100 free (51.31-51.35). Yoshimura picked up the 100 fly title in 55.79.
Emily Baturka, a senior at Episcopal Academy, finished her high school career with first-place times of 23.75 in the 50 free and 55.92 in the 100 back. She also led off Episcopal's winning 200 medley relay (1:43.40) with junior Rachel Repke, sophomore Emily Rhodes and junior Tara Oprey.
The Germantown boys scored 475 points for the team trophy to Peddie's 438 and Haverford's 303. Loyola Blakefield collected 280 points for fourth, and Penn Charter took the fifth spot with 209.
Germantown senior Arthur Frayler just missed a national interscholastic mark in the 500 free with his 4:17.96. Jack Conger of Good Counsel set the record two weeks prior at 4:17.51 during the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Championships. Frayler missed a second win by 9-hundredths in the 200 free to Peddie's Thomas Duvall (1:39.91-1:40.00). Senior Adam Sjoholm picked up an individual for Germantown title in the 100 free (46.17), as did freshman Alex Lebed in the 200 IM (1:50.24).
Peddie's second-place standing was in no small part due to its sweep of the relays. Cal Rohde, Forrest Davis, Ryan Signorin and Duvall combined for a 1:33.02 in the 200 medley. Patrick Park, Alex Rosen, Davis and Jeremy Wong picked up the 200 free win with their 1:24.76 over the Penn Charter quartet of sophomore Connor McGoldrick, senior Harry Wood, senior Bobby Wurtz and junior Jamal Willis (1:24.88). For the sweep, Park, Signorin, Rohde and Wong teamed up for a 3:04.16 in the 400 free relay.
Besides Duvall's win in the 200 free, Park claimed the 100 fly title in 49.99, and Davis topped the field in the 100 breast (56.79).
Willis powered to a 20.96 victory in the 50 free, and Woodberry Forest junior Zach Switzer picked up the 100 back win in 50.45.
