|MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa, February 14. MUSCATINE High School's 177.5 points gave them the team title at the Iowa Boys State High School Championships Feb. 11 in Marshalltown.
A tight battle took place for second through fifth places, with just 9.5 points separating the four teams. Dowling Catholic emerged on top with 135 points for second, with Johnston grabbing third by ½ point over Dubuque, 127.5-127, followed closely by West Des Moines Valley with 125.5.
Sophomore Trent Jackson led the way for Muscatine with victories in the 200 yard free (1:40.75) and 500 free (4:38.63). Classmate Travis Greenwald contributed a win in the 100 breast (57.35). Two of Muscatine's relays snagged wins: the 200 medley relay of freshman Alex Walton, Greenwald, freshman Tate Jackson and senior Kris Treiber cruised to a 1:35.26 victory; Greenwald, Treiber, Trent Jackson and Tate Jackson combined for a 1:26.45 win, followed closely by Ankeny's squad of seniors Jacob Burr, Lucas Klinker, Brett Deters and Jacob Klinker, who put together a 1:26.63.
In the 50 free, Dowling Catholic junior Jonathan Fiepke and Dubuque junior Josh Gill battled to a 21.02-21.03 finish. They finished 1-2 in the 100 free as well, with Fiepke again coming out on top, 45.49-46.09. Fiepke anchored Dowling Catholic's victorious 400 free relay (3:09.04), along with junior Ben Severino, senior Nate Tystsahl and freshman Alek Martin.
Clinton's Matt Boyd, a senior, claimed the 100 back (51.06) and 200 IM (1:53.50) events. Des Moines Roosevelt junior Max Ward blasted to victory in the 100 fly, posting a 50.75.
