High School State Championships: Washington Girls Divisions 2A, 3A and 4A -- November 17, 2011

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, November 17. HIGH school girls from across the state of Washington met in Federal Way for their state's high school championships Nov. 11-12. The championships, held in three divisions, were swum in short course yards.

Division 2A
Four individual and one Division 2A records were set during finals. The individual record-setters included Katie Kaestner, a senior at Anacortes, in the 100 breast (1:04.28); Julia Sanders, a junior at Hockinson, in the 100 fly (56.29); Natilee Ruiz, a senior at Othello, in the 200 IM (2:04.02); and Delaney Deugh, a senior at Fife, in the 1-meter diving event (330.90). The lone relay mark went to the Squalicum quartet of junior Carlee Bock, seniors Camorah King and Rylie Martin, and sophomore Maddi Dohm, who combined for a 1:51.89 in the 200 medley relay.


Ruiz missed a second divisional record by 1-hundredth in capturing the 100 free in 51.00. Sanders doubled in the 50 free with her 23.72 victory. Bock was tops in the 100 back (57.61).

Sumner sophomore Madison Munger topped the field in the 200 free with her 1:57.03. Freshman Kelsey Crane from Klahowya took first in the 500 free (5:15.42).

Sophomore Josephine Hegeberg joined King, Martin and Bock to claim a second relay win for Squalicum with their 3:44.29 in the 400 free relay. Munger led juniors Elizabeth Martin and Ashley Huynh, along with senior Sami Hendricks, to a win in the 200 free relay (1:42.66).

Sehome edged Squalicum for the team title, 223-212. Sumner came in third with 192 points, followed by Interlake's 163 and River Ridge's 129.

Division 3A
Mercer Island claimed the team title with 340 points, with Bainbridge in second at 318 points. Hanford came in third with 195 points, and Bellevue tallied 150 points. Rounding out the top five was Holy Names, scoring 135 points.

Anna Keane, a sophomore at Meadowdale, was victorious in both the 50 free (23.50) and 100 free (50.62). Mercer Island senior Grace Wold also brought home two wins with her 55.08 in the 100 fly and 2:02.50 in the 200 IM.

Individual champions included Monica Bottelberghe, a Columbia River sophomore, in the 200 free (1:50.55); Sarah Grundman, a junior at Bainbridge, in the 500 free (5:04.25); Mackenna Briggs, a freshman at Liberty, in the 100 back (58.62); Kim Williams, a Bellevue freshman, in the 100 breast (1:03.97); and Paige Greely, a senior at J.F. Kennedy, in 1-meter diving (404.00 points).

The Hanford team of sophomore Linnea Peacock, junior Stephanie Tixier, senior Melissa Merrill and sophomore Lisa Tixier were first in both the 200 free (1:38.46) and 400 free (3:34.48) relays. Bainbridge's quartet of sophomore Shayla Archer, senior Tess Harpur, sophomore Anna Peirano and junior Julia Griffiths grabbed first in the 200 medley relay with their 1:49.16.

Division 4A
Seniors Amber Cratsenberg from Thomas Jefferson and Katie Kinnear of Skyline achieved two victories apiece at the Division 4A Championships. Cratsenberg doubled in the 200 free (1:50.01) and 500 free (4:57.55), and Kinnear nabbed the 100 back (54.60) and 100 fly (53.46) wins.

Stadium junior Felicity Cann, who finished second in the 200 free to Cratsenberg, topped thei field in the 100 free with her 51.68. Garfield junior Caitlin Chambers was the 1-meter diving champion, scoring 404.50 points. Three sophomores scored wins as well: Federal Way's Kenna Ramey in the 50 free (23.62), Inglemoor's Sage Speak in the 100 breast (1:04.31) and Richland's Lisa Bratton in the 200 IM (2:03.70).

Kinnear, with the help of juniors Sarah Elderkin, Andi Scarcello and Maria Volodkevich, helped Skyline to victory in the 200 medley relay (1:47.22). Senior Meghan O'Keefe and sophomore Stephanie Munoz joined forces with Volodkevich and Kinnear to grab the 400 free title (3:32.87). Stadium's team of Cann, seniors Sadie Treleven and Casey Penrose, plus sophomore Anber Longrie, captured the 200 free relay (1:38.78).

Skyline scored 202 points to grab first place, with Stadium taking second with 147 points. Mt. Rainier and Kentlake tied for third with 123 points each, followed closely by Issaquah with 119 points.
