High School State Championships: Missouri Boys

ST. PETERS, Missouri, November 11. TIMBERLAND senior Andrew Sansoucie lowered his state record from last year in the 100 yard fly from 48.14 to 47.96 at this year's Missouri State High School Swimming and Diving Championships Nov. 9-10 at the Rec-Plex Arena in St. Peters. He came within 6-hundredths of a second state mark in the 50 free, defending his title with this year's 20.44.

Rockhurst claimed the team title with 225 points. Parkway Central was second (203.5), followed by Francis Howell (148.5), John Burroughs (142.5) and Blue Springs South (135).

Parkway Central senior Nick Orf also was successful in defending his 200 IM title, posting a 1:51.44 this year. Timberland's Justin Marler, runner-up in the 100 back last year (52.79), dueled Chaminade junior Will O'Shea to a 51.93-52.03 victory.

Two seniors who placed fourth in their events at last year's state meet claimed first place this time around. Park Hills South's Liam Huffman lowered his time from 1:42.47 in the 200 free to this year's 1:40.79. And Zach Knoche of Lee's Summit improved from 1:00.24 in the 100 breast to 57.70.

Lewis Behnen, a senior at Rockhurst, placed fifth in the 500 free in 2011 with his 4:38.39. This year, his 4:29.05 effort earned him the win.

Francis Howell junior Alex Crawford took first in the 100 free (46.50), and the diving event was won by David Knopka, a Rockhurst freshman (415.85 points).

Parkway Central took charge in the 200 medley relay (1:36.81) and the 400 free relay (3:11.84) with the team of Orf, senior Brandon Weissman, plus juniors Riley Brown and Zach Rogers. John Burroughs' 200 free relay of junior Daniel Diemer, sophomore Tyler Waterman, senior Robert Beckles and junior Kevin Stinehouse cruised to a first-place 1:27.01.
