U.S. Wins Pair of Medals at FINA Diving World Series in Dubai

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, March 17. DAVID Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) won the bronze medal on 10-meter, and Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ill.) and Kassidy Cook (The Woodlands, Texas) won silver in synchronized 3-meter at the first leg of the 2012 FINA Diving World Series, held March 16-17 in Dubai.

The FINA Diving World Series is a four-leg, invitation-only event for the top finishers from the 2011 World Championships.

In Saturday's men's 10-meter contest, Boudia finished with 521.60 points to finish third behind a pair of world champions. China's Qiu Bo, the 2011 world champion, scored 569.25 for gold, and 2009 world champion Tom Daley of Great Britain won silver with 539.40 points. Nick McCrory (Chapel Hill, N.C.) also advanced to the finals and finished fifth with 490.85 points.

Boudia received mostly 9.5s on his front 4 ? tuck for 105.45 points, and he scored 97.20 points on a back 3 ? pike that earned a 10 from one judge.

Boudia and McCrory also teamed up for sixth place in Friday's men's synchronized 10-meter contest with 408.51 points, just 4.11 out of third. China won the gold with 474.36 points.

In Friday's women's 3-meter synchro contest, Cook and Loukas scored 297.72 points, second only to China's world champions He Zi and Wu Minxia, who finished with 329.40 points. Ukraine's Anna Pysmenska and Olena Fedorova were third.

Loukas also advanced to Saturday's individual 3-meter finals, where she scored 333.60 to finish fifth. China's Wu won the gold at 372.15. Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) scored 321.30 in her semifinal and did not advance to the finals; she finished seventh overall.

Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) advanced to the men's 3-meter finals and finished sixth with 450.80 points. Dumais finished second in his semifinal and then increased his degree of difficulty for the finals, where he competed a front 2 1/2 with 3 twists (carrying a degree of difficulty of 3.9). World champion He Chong of China scored 522.25 for gold, while Russia's Illya Zakharov, the 2011 world silver medalist, finished second.

The next stop on the FINA Diving World Series is Beijing, where competition will be held March 23-24.
