Cassidy Krug, Kassidy Cook Win Bronze at Pan American Games

GUADALAJARA, Mexico, October 30.CASSIDY Krug (Coraopolis, Pa./Stanford, Calif.) won her second Pan American Games medal Saturday, this time picking up a bronze in women's synchronized 3-meter with teammate Kassidy Cook (The Woodlands, Texas).

Cook and Krug scored 319.50 points to finish behind Mexico's Paola Espinosa and Laura Sanchez (338.70) and Canada's Jennifer Abel and Emilie Heymans (336.30).

"This was a personal best score for us in an international competition, so that was great to see. We both dove well individually, but we need to work on our synchro a little more," Cook said.

The pair's 319.50 score topped their previous best international score of 318.30, which they set in a fifth-place showing at the 2010 FINA World Cup in China.

For Krug, the bronze medal came a day after she won the silver in the individual 3-meter contest.

"We dove great (Saturday). Our timing wasn't quite there at times, but I'm still pretty happy with how we did," Krug said.

Mexico swept the eight diving events as Ivan Garcia dominated the men's 10-meter finals with 553.80 points, 45.60 ahead of silver medalist Rommel Pacheco, also of Mexico. Garcia's list was the most difficult of any competitor and included an inward 4 ½ tuck (4.1 DD), a front 4 ½ tuck (3.7), and a front 2 ½ with three twists (3.8). He scored more than 90 points on all three of those dives.

Thomas Finchum (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished fifth with 451.95 points.

FInchum was in third place at the halfway point, but missed his reverse 3 ½ and back 3 ½ tucks in the fourth and fifth rounds before bouncing back with 90 points on his final dive, a back 2 ½ with 2 ½ twists.

"I'm definitely not pleased with how I did. Unfortunately I missed my best two dives, but it's nice to know I would have been in the mix had I hit those dives like I can," FInchum said.

Saturday's competition marked the conclusion of the diving events at the Pan Am Games. Team USA finished with three medals, with Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) and Kristian Ipsen (Clayton, Calif.) winning silver in men's 3-meter synchro on Wednesday.
