AUSTIN, Texas, March 27. PAVEL Sankovich, the fourth-seeded swimmer in today's 200 IM prelims at the NCAA Men's Division I Swimming and Diving Championships, is scratching the event to give Florida State a better opportunity to score big points in the 400 medley relay.

Sankovich was primed to make the top eight in the 200 IM after a 1:41.92 from the Atlantic Coast Conference championships put him position to do so. But Florida State staffers told Swimming World this morning that coaches want the Seminoles' medley relay to be at its best in prelims today, and Sankovich swimming the 200 IM about a half hour before the relay might hurt the team's chances to score a top-three finish. Florida State is seeded second in prelims.

Sankovich is still set for the 100 butterfly-100 backstroke on Friday.
