Gauchos With Strong Start to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships

MONTEREY PARK, California, February 19. THE first of four days of the 2014 MPSF Swimming and Diving Championships belongs to UC Santa Barbara. The Gaucho women posted relay victories in the 200 Medley (1:39.87) and 800 Free Relays (7:16.42). Swimming the 200 was Allie Knight, Katie Records, Andrea Ward, and Sophia Yamauchi, beating UC Davis by two-hundredths of a second (1:39.89). Ward, Monica Garcia, Heren Alanis, and Anne Peanasky touched first in the 800, again topping the Aggies, this time by a second and a half.

On the men’s side, Hawaii claimed the 200 Medley Relay (1:27.27) with a trio of sophomores; Karch Perkins, Paulo dePaula, Karl-Richard Hennebach, and junior Ali Maclean. Pacific was runner-up, two seconds behind. In the men’s 800 Medley Relay, BYU (6:31.41) was over five seconds ahead of second-place Pacific (6:36.50). Swimming for the Cougars was Rainer Ng, Mckay King, Stott Bushnell, and Jake Taylor.
