Michigan Women Take Down Michigan State At In-State Dual

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, February 7. THE Michigan women’s team made short work of in-state rival Michigan State in dual meet action today, posting a 164-107 victory.

Ali DeLoof was the busiest swimmer at the meet, winning two individual events and helping the Wolverines win both relays. After posting a 25.25 backstroke leadoff in the medley relay, she was back in the 50 free, winning with a 23.45. She also won the 200 back to show her range with a 2:01.07. To conclude the meet, she anchored the 200 free relay with a 23.11 split.

Marie Georger also won two individual events in today’s meet. She swam a 2:03.75 in the 200 fly, then won the 400 IM later in the meet with a 4:25.07.

Michigan State only won one event, thanks to the 51.65 posted by Summer Strickler in the 100 free to beat Michigan’s Shara Missiuna by .14 seconds. Michigan showed no mercy on the Spartans, posting three 1-2-3 finishes in the first three individual events of the meet.

Claudia Goswell kicked off that streak of sweeps in the 200 free with a 1:50.76. Another Claudia, Claudia Lau, posted a 56.71 in the 100 back and Angie Chokran won the 100 breast with a 1:02.75.

Other winners for Michigan today include: Marni Oldershaw in the 200 breast (2:17.67), Kelsey Cummings in the 500 free (4:54.80) and Courtney Beidler in the 100 fly (57.10).
