San Diego Hosts San Jose State, Air Force In Relay Meet

SAN DIEGO, California, January 4. SAN Jose State earned wins in 10 of 10 relays this afternoon to top the University of San Diego and Air Force in a relay-only meet in San Diego. The Spartans topped the final standings with 277 points, followed by Air Force (213) and host San Diego (165).

The University of San Diego women’s swim team opened up the 2014 calendar year by hosting San Jose State and Air Force for the USD Relay Meet on Saturday afternoon from the Sports Center Pool. While the final score favored SJSU (277) and Air Force (213), the Toreros (165) turned in a number of quality swims on the day that featured ten relay events.

USD’s A Relay (Seller, Lineback, and Noonan) started out the day with a second place finish in the 3×100 yard butterfly relay, finishing in 2:59.63.

In the 300 yard backstroke relay, USD’s A team (Franz, Beall, and Reierson) also took second, finishing with an impressive 2:59.63.

In the 300 yard breaststroke, Christina Jonsson, Sammi Cohn, and Paige Sellers placed fourth with a time of 3:35.05.

The 800-yard freestyle relay saw the A squad (Walter, Tolan, Cahill, and Deiparine) finish in fourth.

In the 500-yard freestyle crescendo (50-100-150-200 yards), Stephanie Jones, Taylor Noonan, Morgan Scarth, and Keenan Lineback, made up USD’s A relay and took fourth place with their swim of 4:51.04.

In the 400 yard medley relay, the Toreros placed fourth and sixth. Their A team (Beall, Franz, Reierson, and Taylor) finished with a time of 4:07.42, while the B squad (Sellers, Tolan, Jonsoon, Martinko) finished in 4:21.07.

The Toreros had an impressive showing in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Jackie Taylor, Haley Cahill, Lexie Franz, and Stephanie Jones finished third with a final time of 1:40.30.

Danielle Deiparine, Claire Tolan, and Gwen Walter helped the Toreros finish third in the 1500 yard freestyle relay with a time of 15:54.26.

Deiparine, along with Reierson, Jonsson, and Lineback, helped lead the Toreros to a second place finish in the 400 yard medley with a final time of 4:10.69. The B team (Cohn, Personeni, Phillips, Scarth) finished fifth with a time of 4:24.09.

The Toreros finished out the day with a third and sixth place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The A team (Jones, Noonan, Walter, and Taylor) notched a time of 3:37.78. The B team (Cahill, Beall, Personeni, and Martinko) finished in 3:54.65.

The Toreros return to action next Friday when they head to Los Angeles, Calif. To participate in the Bruin Invitational.
