Ohio Northern Sweeps Findlay In Final Dual Meet of 2013

ADA, Ohio, December 14. THE Ohio Northern swimming and diving teams swept their final dual meets of 2013 last night, as the Polar Bear men overwhelmed Findlay, 205-68, and the ONU women earned a 10-point victory, 145-135.

No. 21-ranked Ohio Northern men won 12 of 15 events and defeated NCAA Division II Findlay 205-68 in a non-conference swimming & diving meet Friday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 5-1, while the Oilers fall to 0-4.

Junior Brian Heilbronner was the only multiple-individual event winner for ONU. He won the 50 back in :25.47 and the 100 back in :54.61 to lead the Polar Bears.

Sophomore Zack Martin won the 1000 free in 10:13.12.

Senior Kevin Krivanek won the 50 breast in :28.32, senior All-American Jordan Breitigam won the 100 fly in :52.45 and senior John Beaschler won the 50 free in :21.90.

Sophomore Jacob Croasdell won the 500 free in 5:00.17.

Freshman Eric Chen won the 100 free in :48.30 and freshman Jeremy Preston won the 50 fly in :23.66.

Freshman Tim Pelltier and senior Kyle Rex finished 1-2 in the 1-meter diving with 190.45 and 183.80 points, respectively.

“Our men continue to show promise and depth,” ONU head coach Peggy Ewald said. “They applied some key points we learned last week at Wooster and worked them into their races. We are moving in the right direction.”

Northern’s 400 medley relay team of Heilbronner, junior Jason Luthman, Preston and Pfeifer started the meet with a win in 3:35.41.

The 400 free relay team of Chen, sophomore Mitchell Murphy, freshman Logan Pfeifer and Beaschler won in 3:12.56 to wrap up the meet.

The Polar Bears will be off for the Christmas Holidays and will return to action Jan. 10-11 at the Calvin (Mich.) Invitational.

No. 22-ranked Ohio Northern women swimming and diving team edged NCAA Division II Findlay 145-135 in a non-conference swimming & diving meet Friday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 4-3, while the Oilers fall to 2-2.

Northern was clinging to a 132-131 lead entering the final event of the night.

Sophomore Allison Lohnes, freshman Emily Uhrin, freshman Jill Chapman and sophomore Lindsey Inkrott won the 400 free relay by nearly four seconds in 3:43.79 to lift the Polar Bears to the thrilling victory.

“It was exciting to match up with Findlay in such a close meet,” ONU head coach Peggy Ewald said. “The outcome of the meet came down to the final race and is was exciting to see our women pull it out. The ladies really had to come together and stay tough throughout the entire meet. This took us to a new level of team unity. I’m very proud of how they swam.”

Lohnes, Uhrin and Chapman also won individual events for ONU.

Lohnes won the 100 back in 1:01.87, Uhrin won the 200 free in 2:00.84 and Chapman won the 100 free in :55.26.

Senior Lindsey Rayhill won the 100 fly in 1:00.95 and freshman Molly Wheeler won the 50 free in :26.19.

The Polar Bears will be off for the Christmas Holidays and will return to action Jan. 10-11 at the Calvin (Mich.) Invitational.

Findlay Press Release

The University of Findlay men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams completed their meet against Ohio Northern University on Friday, December 13 in Ada, Ohio. The women lost 145-135 while the men fell 205-68.

On the women’s side, the Oilers won the first event of the evening when Hannah Schreiber, Kaley Holmstrom, Emily Annen and Ailsa Hershaw took first place in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:09.36. Hershaw also took first place in the 50-yard breaststroke (32.77) and 100-yard freestyle (55.93) while Holmstrom took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.34) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:46.31). Annen took first place in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 27.70.

Kate Fisher took first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:25.31 while Jessica Ward took first place in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 28.45.

Annie Currin placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:30.58.

Ashleigh Weddington took first place on the one meter board with a final score of 239.05.

On the men’s side, Todo Djurovic scored the trifecta for the Oilers with the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.87), 100-yard breaststroke (58.58) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:13.27).

Jon Marble took first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:13.10.

The Oilers return to the pool on January 17 at home when they face Wayne State University.
