Toledo Press Release

The University of Toledo women’s swimming and diving team continued their early-season success, staying undefeated in the Mid-American Conference with a 170-130 victory over Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the UT Student Recreation Center.

The Rockets won 11 of 16 events, including the first four races of the day.

“Teamwork and toughness helped us earn a victory today over a talented Eastern Michigan team,” head coach Chris Peters said. “Considering that we are training really hard right now, the ladies did a nice job racing tough and being supportive of each other throughout the meet. It was a nice way to finish off our first semester of the dual meet schedule.”

Toledo’s 200-yard medley relay team consisting of seniors Christina Noens (Indianapolis, IN) and Beth Rogers (Canton, OH), sophomore Samantha Richart (Saline, MI) and freshman Stephanie O’Toole (Butler, PA) led off the meet by placing first with a time of 1:45.58. Sophomore Mary Dombkowski (Canton, MI) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in the day’s second race, winning by more than two seconds with a time of 10:25.09.

Rogers added two individual victories as well, winning the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly with times of 23.75 and 55.59, respectively.

Sophomore Kristen Nunnelly (Greenwood, IN) continued her strong early season, winning both the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM.

In the final event of the day, O’Toole earned a second relay victory as she joined Rogers, sophomore Brooke Edwards (Dundee, MI) and freshman Jamie Skowronek (Carmel, IN) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:32.47. Skowronek also added an individual victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.55.

Junior Maria Bargardi (Dearborn Heights, MI) added two more wins for the Rockets, placing first in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke.
