(Video) Gregg Troy Previews Dual With Georgia: “Depth Will Be the Key For Both of Us”

GAINESVILLE, Florida, October 28. THIS weekend’s dual meets featuring the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams from Florida and Georgia are bound to be the most exciting collegiate competitions this weekend, and Florida head coach Gregg Troy talked about his expectations in a press conference today.

“(The roster for) Georgia reads like a Who’s Who in swimming, which is good for us,” Troy said of the Bulldogs’ women’s team. “It’s a great opportunity for us to see what it’s going to take to do well at the NCAA meet.”

He said the women’s meet against Cal recently was a chance for Troy to take advantage of weaknesses for the Golden Bears, particularly in their distance freestyle ranks. When it comes to Georgia, however, “they’ve got no weaknesses. It’s a little bit different challenge for us.”

While Florida has super senior Elizabeth Beisel and junior Natalie Hinds on their side, Georgia has such talent as Shannon Vreeland and Melanie Margalis to counter any Gator attack. On paper, it would be tough to say who has the advantage, especially during a meet in late October.

As for his men’s team, Troy insinuates that Georgia will have a tough time matching up with their talent, of which Sebastien Rousseau and Marcin Cieslak stand at the top. Georgia has a dynamic duo in Chase Kalisz and Matias Koski that has performed well this season.

“If someone wants to get in with us, they’re going to have to measure up in all the events and be really ready to go,” he said, calling Georgia “the best men’s competition we’ve had so far.”

The dual meets will start at 1 p.m. Eastern Friday in Gainesville.
