SUNY-New Paltz Swimming Celebrates 50th Anniversary With Epic Video

NEW PALTZ, New York, October 15. SUNY-New Paltz has put together one of the strongest anniversary videos one might see in the sport of swimming. For its 50th anniversary, the one-time home of Swimming Hall of Famer Ernie Maglischo, New Paltz commissioned an extraordinary video to celebrate the occasion.

Swimming World is particularly proud of the video as its voiceover is offered up by former Swimming World intern and current SUNY-New Paltz sports information director Brian Savard. Savard also was instrumental in collecting much of the content included in the amazing video, which was produced by Matt Roy of BKW Productions.

The school also hosted an outstanding reunion this past weekend in New Paltz. More than 130 alumni from the program turned out on campus to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the sport.

In particular, Saturday’s schedule included an annual alumni swim meet that saw a record turnout as well as a dinner ceremony. During the dinner ceremony, former head coaches Art Stockin and Brian Williams reminisced on their time presiding over the program, and current head coach Scott Whitbeck also spoke, discussing the current state of both teams as well as thanking many individuals for their impact on the program over the years.

New Paltz’s director of athletics, Stuart Robinson, presented Stockin, Williams, Whitbeck and former head men’s swimming coach Dan Talleyrand with a plaque commemorating their service to the program. Maglischo was unable to attend the ceremony, although his presence was definitely felt throughout the night.
