MIAMI, Florida, October 5. FLORIDA International University got its season off to a great start Saturday afternoon by defeating rival Florida Atlantic by the largest margin in the two teams' history, 175-102. FIU won every event but two en route to the win.

FIU opened the meet with a half-second victory in the 200 medley relay, as Jennifer Alfani, Klara Andersson, Maria Nord and Jennifer Deist posted a 1:47.45 to just out-touch Florida Atlantic's 1:48.01.

FIU senior Sonia Perez had a meet to remember, winning three individual events. She swept the distance freestyle events, winning the 1,000 in 10:29.78 and 500 in 5:00.89, and added a third win in the 200 IM (2:04.91) to close out her meet.

Teammate Klara Andersson added two wins, as she claimed both sprint free events, posting a 24.25 in the 50 free and 53.21 in the 100. Hannah Vandersluis, also of Florida International, claimed both breaststroke events at the meet, taking the 100 in 1:07.52 and the 200 in 2:24.42. Her time in the longer distance was just .04 ahead of teammate Jean Madison, who touched in 2:24.46.

FIU also got wins from Johanna Gustafsdottir (200 free, 1:54.59) and Jennifer Alfani (100 back, 57.84), who combined with Andersson, Nord and Deist to win the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay, in 3:32.95.

Florida Atlantic earned victories from Iwona Lefanowicz in the 200 back (2:04.06), Frida Nilsson in the 100 fly (56.51) and Anett Kovacs in the 200 fly (2:04.08).

In diving action, FIU freshman Sabrina Beaupre recorded her first two collegiate victories, taking the 1-meter with 292.20 points and the 3-meter with 294.45. Notably, the Florida Atlantic men's team also competed in an unscored, intrasquad-like fashion, as Florida International does not have a men's team.
