Show-Me Showdown, All North Carolina Invitational On Tap This Weekend

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 3. A handful of NCAA Division II and III swimming and diving teams will take to the pool this weekend in what will be many teams’ season-opening meet.

Highlighting the weekend will be two invitationals — the Show-Me Showdown at the University of Missouri, and the All North Carolina Invitational in Greensboro, N.C.

The 9th Annual Show-Me Showdown, which takes place this Friday, will feature men’s and women’s teams from Drury, Lindenwood, Maryville, Missouri State, Truman State, Washington University, William Jewell and host Missouri, as well as the Missouri S&T men’s squad. Missouri won last year’s meet with 1,321 points, followed by Missouri State (1,050) and Drury (937).

Last year, Drury swept the men’s and women’s NCAA Division II National Championships, with the men winning their ninth consecutive national title and the women bringing home their fourth title in the past five years. The Panthers will aim to move up a spot on the podium to second at this year’s Show-Me Showdown.

Meanwhile, the All North Carolina Invitational will take place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. on Saturday. Division II teams Wingate, Catawba Pfeiffer and Queens University of Charlotte will all be in attendance, along with Division III Greensboro College. The Wingate women’s team is coming off a fifth-place finish at last year’s NCAA Championships, while the men placed sixth overall.

In other Division II action, Southern Connecticut will take on Shippensburg and West Chester, and Wagner will take on CW Post.

Other Division III meets on the slate for this weekend include Pacific Lutheran vs. Idaho, Frostburg State vs. York and UC-Santa Cruz vs. Stanford. The Potomac Relays will also take place Friday evening at American University.
