Auburn Blasts Outmatched Vanderbilt Women To Open Season

NASHVILLE, Tennessee, September 27. THE Auburn women started the season off right with a 158-44 triumph against Southeastern Conference foe Vanderbilt. The Tigers swept all 12 events this evening.

“It was the first meet of the year for our team and it was good to see where we are at in these early stages of training,” head coach Brett Hawke said. “I thought the freshmen were solid in their first collegiate meet and overall the performance was good. Attention to details was what the coaching staff was looking for.”

Auburn dominated the event wire-to-wire, not only winning all 12 events, but also claiming the top two spots in 10 of the 12 swims.

Ashley Neidigh and Jillian Vitarius both picked up a pair of victories against the Commodores. Neidigh checked in with wins in the 500 free (5:02.08) and 1000 free (10:02.49), while Vitarius prevailed in the 200 free (1:50.94) and 200 back 1:59.48).

Otherwise, Hawke spread the wealth with smart dual meet lineup management, giving all of his athletes a chance to get in some strong racing.

The meet proved to be a tuneup for Auburn, as they head to South Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame Tri-Meet to battle Indiana and Notre Dame.
