Indiana Hoosiers Restructuring Staff; Add Jeff Kostoff, Kyle Hastings

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana, June 30. WITH a pair of assistant coaching positions to fill. Indiana head swimming coach Ray Looze has decided to add a historic name as well as promote several coaches from within at Indiana University.

With Marie Marsman resigning earlier this season as an assistant, as well as swimming taking control of what previously was an assistant diving position, Looze had two opening to fill. Tomorrow, the Hoosiers will officially announce that Jeff Kostoff and volunteer assistant coach Kyle Hastings will fill those positions.

Additionally, current assistant head coaches Donny Brush and Mike Westphal will be promoted to associate head coaching roles.

Kostoff, a legendary name in the sport of swimming, will coach the distance freestyle and medley swimmers, while Hastings will continue to work with the sprinters.

Kostoff, a two-time Olympian in 1984 and 1988, has been out of the sport since 2007 as he has been a senior sales executive and systems engineer with PTFS in Maryland. Previously, he served as a coach at Maryland (1993-97), Manor Country Club (1991-98), St. John's College High School (1992-93) and Rockville High School (1997-99), but is re-entering the sport he first made a big name for himself.

The Pan American Games gold medalist had until recently held one of the longest standing National Age Group records in the sport in the 500-yard freestyle (1983-2013) before Jack Conger broke it earlier this season. Additionally, Kostoff's 1650-yard freestyle school record at Stanford held up for 21 years from 1986-2007.

Hastings, meanwhile, has been with the Hoosiers since the 2012-13 campaign. Since that time, the Hoosiers have set school records in the men's 50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay, all with Hastings' influence.

Hastings had two stints with the Metro Aquatic Club in Florida from 2007-10 and 2011-12. He also served as a coach at Florida International (2007-08), Club Seminole (2010-11), Maryland (2005), Milford High School and Belen Jesuit High School.

Meanwhile, Brush will be the lead coach for the women's team, while Westphal will continue as the lead coach for the men's team with their new titles.
