Connor Jaeger Detroit Athletic Club Michigan Male College Athlete of the Year

DETROIT, Michigan, May 6. JUNIOR Connor Jaeger (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) of the University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team was announced as the 2013 Michigan Male College Athlete of the Year by the Detroit Athletic Club (DAC) on Monday (May 6). Jaeger will officially receive the honor at the 17th Annual DAC Athletic Awards next Monday (May 13).

He is the third male recipient of the award from the University of Michigan, joining former swimmer Davis Tarwater (2006) and former wrestler Kellen Russell (2012). The award started in 1996 and honors both athletic and academic achievement. In 2006, the awards were expanded to recognize outstanding college athletes with the Michigan College Athlete of the Year award.

Last August, he represented the United States at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, finishing sixth in the 1,500-meter freestyle. At the college level, he was named 2012-13 Big Ten Swimmer of the Year after helping Michigan win its 37th Big Ten championship and 12th NCAA championship. Individually, Jaeger won national titles in the 500-yard freestyle and 1,650-yard freestyle, also winning conference titles in both those events and as part of the 800-yard freestyle relay. Through three years at Michigan, Jaeger is a seven-time NCAA All-American, six-time Big Ten champion and three-time All-Big Ten first team selection.

A mechanical engineering major, Jaeger is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a three-time recipient of the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award. He was also elected as one of the team's captains for next season.
