DURHAM, North Carolina, February 19. DUKE diving coach Drew Johansen announced on Monday that senior Abby Johnston will miss the remainder of the 2012-13 season after undergoing an acromial decompression and distal clavicle excision on her left shoulder.

The procedure was performed on February 13 by Dr. Claude T. Moorman III, Duke's Director of Sports Medicine.

Johnston, a 2012 Olympic silver medalist in the women's 3-meter synchronized diving event, is a three-time All-American and claimed the first national title for the Duke women's swimming and diving program in 2011 on the 3-meter springboard. The native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, has won five Atlantic Coast Conference titles in her career at Duke, in addition to being named the ACC Diver of the Year and the ACC's Most Valuable Diver.


Johnston is also a three-year member of the ACC Academic Team and ACC Academic Honor Roll, a participant in the Collegiate Athlete Premedical Experience program and will graduate from Duke in May with a degree in psychology.
