BAKERSFIELD, California, January 6. THE UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving team posted a total of three dual meet victories on Saturday afternoon, as the Rebels swept CSU Bakersfield while also posting a win over the Fresno State women's squad in the tri-meet held at the CSUB campus.
The 23rd ranked UNLV's men's team improved to 4-1 on the year thanks to a 169.5-128.5 win over the CSUB Roadrunners. The Rebels posted 10 wins on the day, with double-event winners Giacomo Gremizzi and Balint Batka pacing the way. Gremizzi claimed first in the 200 breast (2:06.95) and the 400 IM (4:02.13), while Batka posted first-place times in the 200 back (1:52.15) and the 200 fly (1:48.47).
Also posting wins on Saturday was Tom Paco-Pedroni in the 50 free (21.19), Joe Riggert in the 500 free (4:36.57), Henrique Machado in the 100 back (51.40), David Szele in the 100 breast (57.59) and Cody Roberts in the 100 fly (50.19). UNLV also won the 200 medley relay, swimming a time of 1:32.86.
UNLV women meanwhile moved to 3-4 on the season after posting wins over Fresno State (168-126) and CSUB (188-96). Jessica Heim was a triple-event winner, placing first in the 500 free (5:05.26), the 1000 free (10:33.17) and the 200 fly (2:08.22). UNLV would sweep the back and breast events, with Carmen Robb winning the 100 back (56.64) and the 200 back (2:03.89). Nakayla Chan was victorious in the 100 (1:07.02) and 200 breast (2:24.53).
Also posting wins in individual events was Rachel Dixon in the 100 free (52.77) and Katelyne Herrington in the 100 fly (57.24). The Rebels swept both relays as well, with times of 1:45.91 in the 200 medley and 3:31.36 in the 400 free.
The Rebels return to action on Saturday, Jan. 19, when they host UC Santa Barbara in Buchanan Natatorium at 11 am.
