Saint Michael’s College Splits With Clarkson

POTSDAM, New York, November 11. THE Saint Michael's College women's swimming & diving team remained undefeated behind a 112-103 victory against Clarkson University on Saturday at Fuller Pool. The men slipped to 1-1 after falling by a 132-89 count to a 3-1-1 Golden Knight squad. During a meet contested in an atypical 25-meter short-course pool, the Purple Knight women moved to 2-0, while Clarkson is 0-5.

Five women played a hand in multiple victories, including sophomore Steph Nadow (Charlton, Mass./Saint Peter-Marian), who won three times. In addition to topping the 100-meter backstroke in 1:16.00, she swam for the top 400-meter freestyle and medley quartets. In the 400 medley, senior Corine McAllister (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), junior Julie Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) and sophomore Kim Brady (Morris Township, N.J./Academy of Saint Elizabeth) also swam legs, as the foursome finished in 5:07.25 to win by 17.1 seconds.

During the 400 free relay, Brady and Nadow sided with sophomores Kathleen Lamontagne (Manchester, N.H./Trinity) and Victoria Schon (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) for the win in 4:30.95. Mullowney also won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:21.33, while Lamontagne topped the 200 free field in 2:26.93. Mullowney nearly picked up a third win but touched the wall in 29.38 during the 50 free, just 0.03 seconds short of the winning swimmer.

First-year Ally James (Belfast, Maine/Belfast Area) won a pair of one-meter diving events, while classmate Zoe Doucette (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) captured the 100-meter butterfly in 1:20.26. Junior Grace Kahn (Fairhope, Ala./Bayside Academy) was just 0.01 ticks off the pace in the 200-meter individual medley, taking second at 2:47.27.

On the men's side, senior Andrew Marshall (Kittery, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas/Saint Joseph's [Maine]) and sophomore Joe Vo (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) both won two events. Marshall took the 800 free in 9:30.50, which was 15.4 seconds faster than the runner up, while capturing the 400 free in 4:33.24. During the latter race, Marshall won by 0.24 seconds after trailing by 2.08 ticks heading into the final 50 meters. Vo topped a pair of one-meter diving events.

Senior Kyle Esposito (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) took second in the 800 free, junior Jack Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) was the runner up in the 100 fly, sophomore Nathan Paluso (Windham, Maine/Windham) claimed second place in the 200 IM, and first-year Joe Thomas (Norwood, Mass./Boston College HS) touched the wall second in the 200 free.

The Purple Knights complete their first-semester dual meet schedule on Wednesday by hosting in-state rival Norwich University for the first of a home-and-home series this winter. Action begins at 5 p.m.
