Nick D’Innocenzo Strong During Orange-White Texas Intrasquad

AUSTIN, Texas, September 28. SENIOR Nick D'Innocenzo (din-oh-CHIN-zo) notched three individual victories to pace the White team to a 156-127 victory Friday afternoon in the annual Orange-White meet at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Junior Patrick Murphy led off the meet with a victory for the Orange team in the 100 backstroke, where he finished in 50.06. Sophomore Kip Darmody took second for the White team in 50.36. D'Innocenzo notched the White team's first win in the 100 breaststroke, where he took first in 56.70. Freshman Imri Ganiel, who represented his native Israel at the London Olympics, took second for the White team in 57.10.

Sophomore Tripp Cooper led a one-two finish for the White team in the 100 butterfly, where he was victorious in 48.71. Teammate Dax Hill, better known for his prowess in the freestyle events, took second in 49.56. Senior Michael McBroom, a former NCAA champion in the 1,650 freestyle, claimed the 1000 freestyle for the White team in 9:14.86. Sophomore Jake Ritter took second for the Orange team in 9:29.10.

Sophomore Clay Youngquist claimed the 200 freestyle for the Orange squad in 1:38.47. Hill, the event's reigning NCAA champion, took second in 1:39.30. Cooper added his second win of the day in the 50 freestyle, where he led the White team in 20.81. Freshman John Murray took second in 20.93 for team Orange.

A pair of All-Americans went one-two in the 200 IM, where D'Innocenzo took his second win of the day in 1:50.48. Senior Austin Surhoff, who won this event at the NCAA Championships as a freshman, took second in 1:53.09. Sophomore Will Chandler took the one-meter diving event for the White team with 265.58 points. Freshman Sean O'Brien took second in 260.63. Freshman John Martens captured the 200 butterfly for the White team in 1:51.65. Cooper added a second-place finish in 1:52.31.

Hill claimed the second of his two duals with Youngquist and won the 100 freestyle in 44.75. Youngquist took second in 44.91. Surhoff went on to edge Darmody in the 200 backstroke and was victorious in 1:50.48.

McBroom added a second win, this time in the 500 freestyle where he took first in 4:29.14. Ritter placed second in 4:33.27. O'Brien notched a three-meter diving win for team Orange with 283.43 points. He handily topped Chandler's second-place total of 254.40.

D'Innocenzo added a third victory on the day when he claimed the 200 breaststroke in 2:03.63. Freshman Liam Lockwood took second for the Orange team in 2:07.20. The White team capped its victory with a win in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:21.72.

Texas opens the 2012-13 season on Oct. 19 at the Mansfield Invitational in Mansfield, Texas.
