Cougar Classic, Day Three

HOUSTON, Texas, November 19. THE University of Houston swimming and diving team finished in fifth place at the Phill Hansel Cougar Classic. Julia Lonnegren won the platform event for her second individual title of the three-day meet.

Torri Olanski finished as runner-up in the platform event for her highest finish of the weekend, giving Houston the top-two spots in all three diving events.

The Cougars added on four seventh-place finishes on the day with the 400 free relay team included in that mix.

Kim Eeson placed the highest individually for the swimmers in the 100 free as she finished sixth (50.76)

Head swimming coach Augie Busch challenged the team following the first day of competition to do a better job swimming up for the finals and the Cougars delivered as nearly every finals time improved from the preliminaries the next two day.

"The meet went real well," said Busch. "Whenever you have that many best times at this point in the season, it makes you excited as a coach. They're really buying into our team concept and it's unfolding in front of my eyes and it's a lot of fun to watch."

While the divers head to Austin Dec. 1-3, the Houston swimmers put their competition on hold until 2012 begins with a dual meet against SMU on Jan. 21 at the CRWC.

"We'll get back to training pretty quick. We have a lot of great stuff to build off of from this season already."
