Northern Arizona, Seattle vs. Denver

DENVER, Colorado, November 12. THE NAU swimming & diving team scored a 171-65 win over Seattle but dropped a 148-92 decision to Denver to close its weekend in the state of Colorado. The Lumberjacks are now 4-1 in dual competitions after competing on three consecutive days, having also recorded wins against Colorado State and Northern Colorado.
"We had a lot of people swim faster today than they did on Friday or Saturday, which I think says a lot about our fitness and preparation for this trip," said NAU head coach Andy Johns. "We're really pleased with how the whole weekend went and today was a great way to end the trip with some solid swims. We're tired from racing three days in a row but now we have to get ready for our next competitions."

Junior Kristy Ardavanis dominated on the diving boards yet again, sweeping the diving competitions for the third time in four meets this season. Ardavanis opened with a 281.50 score to win the 1-meter competition followed by a winning total of 299.60 on the 3-meter board, with senior Holly Frost finishing second. The Lumberjack junior from Gilbert, Ariz. has now won seven of the eight events she has competed in this season, while NAU has won each diving event in its four meets on the year.

While NAU only scored against Seattle and Denver, the women of Utah were also involved in the meet. Sophomore Emma Lowther was the first Lumberjack swimmer to win, finishing first in the 1000 freestyle in 10 minutes, 36.75 seconds with teammate Kristin Jones finishing second among the eight competitors. Fellow sophomore Rachel Palmer took first among 10 competitors in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:04.07, for the Lumberjacks' other outright victory. NAU defeated Seattle in all but one race, including both relay events, while Denver posted the top overall finisher in four events and outscored NAU in nine events.

The NAU divers will return to action at the Wildcat Diving Invite next weekend in Tucson, while the swimmers will return to the pool in a home dual vs Washington State on Monday, Nov. 21., at 4 p.m.
