Utah vs. Colorado School of Mines

GOLDEN, Colorado, November 11. AT CMS Natatorium, both the Utah men's and women's team came out on top. After a nerve-wracking win last night, the men (3-3) outscored the Ore Diggers 109-88. The women (5-2) posted a score of 103-86.

"We got to see some kids swimming in different events, which was fun. We're really excited about tomorrow," said Utah head coach Greg Winslow.

The women were outstanding, breaking six CSM Natatorium records. The collaboration of Danielle Caldwell, LeighAnne Oliver, Kayla Buck, and Valerie McMullan broke the record in the 400 medley relay (4:03.52) while Zuch did the same in the 50 free (24.19).

The 400 IM record was broken by Traycie Swartz (4:37.40) and the 100 fly record by Melissa Paakh (57.65).

Hannah Caron claimed the record in the 100 back (58.70) while LeighAnne Oliver is in the books for the 100 back (1:08.35).

Behind Oliver, Caron (1:09.25), Paakh (1:10.08) and Lindsay McSweeney (1:13.02) rounded out the top four spots in the 100 breast.

Nicole Ligeza and Chardonnay Biter-Mundt took the one-two spots in the 1000 free (10:58.91 and 11:03.53). Ligeza also placed third in the 100 fly (1:01.76).

Other notable Ute performances include a second-place finish by Swartz in the 100 fly (58.23) and a second place 100 back for Alexandra Jamora (1:02.42).
The men also had a great showing, placing high in almost all events.

Karson Applin placed first in the 100 back (53.42) with Winter Heaven close behind in third (55.21). Applin also won the 200 free (1:45.59) while Heaven won the 400 IM (4:19.37).

The Utah men wrapped up the top three spot in the 100 fly with Eric Murray (52.41) in the lead followed by Ryan Hansen (53.06) and Major Robinson (55.48).

The winner on the 50 free was Ken Tiltges (21.47) while Alex Brown was runner up (22.23) and Robinson was third (22.67).

Ryan Hansen won the 500 free (4:50.32) and Brown snagged second in the 100 free (47.95).

In an unlikely event, the divers joined the swimming team as Ellis Walters and Caleb Herrick both assisted the Ute in winning the women's and men's 200 free relays (1:42.49 and 1:29.13). Madeline Jamora, Caron and Zuch joined Walters while Andy Lamb, Ken Tiltges and Karson Applin assisted Herrick.

Divers Brandon Stopplemoor and Nelson Foo also contributed to the second (1:30.06) and fifth place (1:33.79) 200 free relays. Tomorrow, the Utes will see Seattle, Florida Atlantic (W), Colorado School of Mines (M) and Denver at El Pomar Natatorium at 5 p.m.
