College Swimmers Light Up Scoreboard At SMU Classic

BOULDER, Colorado, October 23. SOUTHERN Methodist University played host to the two-day SMU Classic this weekend, where the Lady Longhorns of Texas swam away with the team title at one of the college season's biggest invites thus far. Texas was triumphant over strong squads from Florida, SMU, Virginia, Louisville and Wisconsin.

Florida Gator Elizabeth Beisel swam to first place finishes in four events, posting sizzling times in the 400 IM (4:10.79), 100 back (54.65), 200 back (1:54.44) and 200 IM (1:58.77).

Teammate Sarah Bateman was on fire for the Gators as well, clocking times of 22.53 in the 50 free and 53.27 in the 100 fly, both individual wins.

Laura Sogar and Karlee Bispo led the Texas women with two first place finishes apiece, as Sogar raced to times of 1:01.99 (100 breast) and 2:13.10 (200 breast) while Bispo added wins in the 200 free (1:47.35) and 100 free (49.45).

Louisville's Hannah Gadd owned the diving well, scoring 327.50 points to win the one-meter competition and 302.90 points on her way to victory in the three-meter contest.

In other Division I action, the Auburn women had an impressive showing against Notre Dame on Friday night, as Emily Bos (100 back, 53.62), Abby Duncan (100 breast, 1:02.01), Hannah Riordan (50 free, 22.84), Ariana Vanderpool-Wallace (100 free, 48.73) and Olivia Scott (100 fly, 53.61) all won events in NCAA B-cut times for the Tigers.

Meanwhile, the Stanford men continued their perfect season with a win over Utah on Thursday. Matt Thompson (100 back, 49.48; 200 back, 1:47.30) and Curtis Lovelace (100 breast, 55.85; 200 breast, 1:59.63) raced to two wins apiece for the Cardinal men.

In Division III action, perennial powerhouse Kenyon kicked off its season with the Kenyon Relays, winning by a narrow margin (120-106) over Denison. Kellyn Caldwell swam on all six of Kenyon's winning relay teams, while teammate Anna Connolly contributed to five wins.
