New Hampshire vs. Siena

LOUDONVILLE, New York, October 15. THE University of New Hampshire women's swimming and diving team opened the season breaking five pool records on its way to topping Siena College for the fourth straight year, 126-93, Saturday afternoon at Siena Swim Center.

New Hampshire won every event on the day, as Jessica Little (Barrie, Ontario) led the Wildcats with pool records in both the 200-yard IM and 200-yard breaststroke. Little finished the 200-yard IM with a time of two minutes and 9.27 seconds, while clocking in at 2:20.88 in the 200-yard breast. Oneida Cooper (Johannesburg, South Africa) grabbed second place in the 200-yard IM, touching down at 2:12.87.

Lauren McCandless (Macungie, Pa.) finished the 200-yard butterfly in 2:06.59, claiming a pool record of her own. Megan Suffel (Waynesboro, Va.) chipped in with a second-place finish in the event, clocking in at 2:11.97.

The Wildcats also had record breaking performances from Katie Mann (Prince George, B.C.) and Ellen Pelletier (West Hartford, Conn.), as the pair both claimed pool records. Mann finished the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.10 in her first time swimming the event. Pelletier was equally impressive, notching a score 260.60 in the 1-meter dive. Jenna Bull (Woodstock, New Brunswick) also had a solid showing in the 200-yard back, finishing in second place (2:07.25).

UNH set the tone early, opening the day with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing with a time of 1:51.37. Cooper, McCandless, Little and Suffel all contributed to the swim, collecting 11 points in the event.

Bull and Mann kept up the pace in the afternoon's next event, claiming the top two spots in the 1000-yard freestyle. Bull paved the way with a time of 10:38.67, while Mann clocked in at 10:42.56.

The duo was at it again later in the action, notching first and second place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke. This time Mann finished in first with a time of 2:06.10 and Bull grabbed second place, touching down at 2:07.25.

The Wildcats return to action Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. when they take part in the New England LCM Challenge at Blodgett Pool.
