Georgetown vs. Delaware

NEWARK, Delaware, October 8. JOSH Hyman's three individual top finishes and a women's pool record highlighted the University of Delaware men's and women's team sweep over visiting Georgetown on Saturday afternoon in Rawstrom Natatorium.

The men defeated Georgetown, 190-106, while the women topped the Hoyas 182-114, in both schools' dual meet opener of the 2011-2012 season.

Hyman (above right) won three individual races, in addition to being the second leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team to earn top honors of the afternoon. He started the afternoon with the relay team, beating Delaware's ‘B' team by over four seconds. He then went on to sweep the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events before finishing off his afternoon with a victory in the 200-yard individual medley event.

Ryan Roberts opened the winning 200-yard medley relay team before going on to place first in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke. Roberts picked up right where he left off last season, as he was crowned the Colonial Athletic Association champion in the 200-yard backstroke event a year ago.

Other top finishers for the men included Paul Gallagher, who won two events and was the anchor of the second place 200-yard medley relay team. Known as a sprint freestyle swimmer, Gallagher swept the 50 and 100-yard freestyle heats in back-to-back events. Zach Lowe and Cole Clark also took home a first place finish.

Over in the diving well, Brian Coonce took both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. He narrowly defeated teammate Nick Hoffman in the 1-meter dive, 263.78-262.73, before dominating the 3-meter board, winning by more than 30 points.

On the women's side, the 200-yard medley relay team of Courtney Raw, Hannah Facchine, Tori Gillespie and Mary Kay Harris set a new Rawstrom Natatorium record with a time of 1:47.31 to kick off the afternoon.

Raw and Facchine added two individual first place finishes while sophomore Shea Solt won each of the distant freestyle events to lead the Blue Hens.

After leading off the 200-yard medley relay team, Raw swept both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events. The junior placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke at the CAA championship meet last season.

Keeping with the theme, Facchine touched home first in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events, while Solt won the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle swims.

Other women's winners included returners Aubrey Caldwell (200-yard freestyle), Mary Kay Harris (50-yard freestyle), Tori Gillespie (100-yard butterfly) and freshman Lauren Ahrens (200-yard IM).

Both squads head to George Mason next Saturday, October 15, to begin their CAA dual meet schedule. The men will take part in a dual meet with the Patriots while the women will battle both George Mason and James Madison. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
