Intermountain Shootout, Day One

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado, October 7. COLORADO Mesa University men's and women's Swimming & Diving teams had several top five finishes in at the Intermountain Shootout at El Pomar Natatorium on the campus of CMU.

CMU is host to Division I Air Force Academy, Colorado State University, Northern Colorado and University of Utah in the two day event.

Alejandro Hernandez placed second in the 400 IM in a time of 4:17.31. Utah's Eric Murray won the event in a time of 4:13.58.

Kent Stavrakas finished second in the 50 free in a time of 21.34. Utah's Nick Soedel placed first with a time of 20.83.

The 400 free relay team of Stavrakas, Austin Detra, Jason Dahlen and Peter Szekely placed fifth (3:18.12).

Hernandez, Brian Lee, Stavrakas and Szekely time of 1:38.14 in the 200 medley relay was fifth best in the field of nine teams.

All-American diver Brock Martin placed third in the 1 meter event with a final score of 275.40.

Kelly Hogan finished fifth in the women's 200 free in a time of 1:57.18.

Briana Purkapile, Hogan, Annie Jones and Gina Panacci finished fourth in the 400 free relay (3:43.72).

Intermountain Shootout will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday at the El Pomar Natatorium.
