California vs. Oregon State

BEAVERTON, Oregon, October 8. FOR the second straight day, California swam to a
victory over Oregon State – this time capturing 13 of 14 events on
Saturday on the Nike Campus. Cal won what was a non-scored, non-conference
meet; there was no diving.

"I just wanted to get them to race in different racing situations, and it
was good because we're not going to have that opportunity again until
November," Cal head coach Teri McKeever said. "It's good for them to see
as we move through the season you have to compete on consecutive days –
maybe two, three or three and a half when you get to Pac-10s or NCAAs. It
was really good.

"I thought that Caitlin did a nice job on some things. She swam the 100
breaststroke and immediately swam the 500 free. Sara Isakovic had a nice
weekend, doing some different things on both days."

Leverenz, a junior, won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.37 and
then placed second, behind Isakovic, in the 500 free. Isakovic, a senior,
had a time of 4:55.48, with Leverenz the runner-up in 5:00.27.

Katherine Raatz and Caroline Piehl each captured two individual events for
the Golden Bears. Raatz, a senior, collected wins in the 200-yard
freestyle, with a time of 1:50.79, and in the 50-yard freestyle, with a
time of 23.84. Piehl, a freshman, posted victories in the 200-yard
individual medley (2:04.75) and 100 free (52.01).

The Bears opened the day by winning the 400-medley relay, with the quartet
of sophomore Stephanie Au, freshman Yvette Kong, Fotsch and freshman
Kaylin Bing clocking a first-place time of 3:51.45. They closed the meet
by triumphing in the 200-free relay, with Leverenz, senior Liv Jensen,
sophomore Cindy Tran and freshman Camille Cheng notching a winning time of
1:35.22.

Oregon State senior Jenni Dole won the 100 back in a time of 57.49.

On Oct. 7, Cal beat Oregon State, 168-85, in Corvallis, Ore., in both
teams' Pac-12 Conference-opening dual meet.

Cal returns to action when it hosts Utah in another Pac-12 dual meet on
Oct. 21 in the home opener at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
