Pacific vs. UC-Davis

DAVIS, California, October 7. THE UC Davis women's swimming and diving team won 11 out of 16 events, including the first nine event of the meet, as the Aggies cruised to a 180-106 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation win over Pacific Thursday in a dual meet at the Schaal Aquatics Center.

Thursday's meet was the season opener for both squads with UC Davis improving to 1-0 on the young season.

The Aggies started the match with a win in the 200 yard medley relay after Lauren Damian, Maya Sprinsock, Megan Leung and Sabrina Cochrane combined for a final time of 1:46.71.

Kayleigh Foley posted multiple wins, including the 200 yard freestyle (1:53.33), 50 yard freestyle (23.85) and the 100 yard freestyle (51.90). Liliana Alvarez was also a two-time winner in breaststroke events, taking victories in the 100 yard (1:05.30) and 200 yard (2:20.48) events.

UC Davis took the top three spots in the 1000 yard freestyle, 200 yard freestyle, 100 yard breaststroke, 200 yard butterfly and 100 yard freestyle.

Pacific's first win of the meet came in the 200 yard backstroke after Shelby Bolin edged out Lauren Damian for first place. The Tigers also had a first-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with Jayme Swalin taking the victory over Grace Benefield by .01 seconds.

Pacific did not compete in diving, allowing the Aggies to sweep in the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Jennifer Meyer took first in the 1-meter event with a score of 220.05 while Katherine Gonsalves posted a score of 213.30 on the high board.

UC Davis will host a Blue-Gold Intrasquad scrimmage this weekend on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 12 p.m. The Aggies get back into MPSF competition on Saturday, Oct. 22, traveling to Seattle University for a 1 p.m. meet. UC Davis will have its only other home meet this season on Jan. 28, 2012 against UC Santa Barbara.
