Keep Up Your Overall Athleticism With Today’s Dryland Tip

SANTA CLARA, California, September 5. AGILITY drills are part and parcel of all dryland strength and conditioning programs, and today’s dryland tip demonstrates one of these exercises to keep up overall levels of athleticism in swimmers.

This dryland tip features Chris Barber of the Center for Optimal Restoration, and three members of the Santa Clara Swim Club, demonstrating an exercise to keep up overall athletic performance regardless of stroke specialization.

Purpose: The ABC ladder is an agility, balance and coordination tool that will help improve the overall foundation of athletic performance. Due to early specialization and inadequate play or physical education classes, swim coaches are gaining responsibility for developing motor skills. The ABC ladder high knee drills is a fun exercise, which provides a different stimuli than many swimming activities, helping build motor skills.

Directions: Place the ladder on the floor; you can also make a ladder out of tape. Have the athlete on one side with their body in line with the ladder. Keeping your head and chest up, eyes focused forward. Driving your knees up high and placing both feet inside of the box as quick as possible.
