Water Polo Extending to the Middle East -- September 12, 2005

LOS ALAMITOS, California, September 12. USA Water Polo has announced that it is taking part in the development of a program for American military troops stationed overseas. Keegan Smith, an Army lieutenant who coached at Jesuit High in Sacramento (Calif.), is starting a program in Kuwait. USA Water Polo is donating equipment.

A number of players in Lieutenant Smith’s unit are former water polo players and have expressed an interest in returning to the sport. The unit will train on its base and will play other units. It is also seeking other teams in the region to play in friendly competition. Smith has taken part in development camps at the Olympic Training Center.

"I would even like to see if we can bring in some of the Kuwaiti youth to expose them to the sport," said Lt. Smith.
